Seven time world surfing champion, and William Buck client, Layne Beachley founded the ‘Aim for the Stars’ Foundation with the primary goal of inspiring and supporting young women to follow and achieve their dreams.
On Friday 16th September, ten William Buck staff were delighted to support and attend the foundation’s annual ‘Aim for the Stars’ gala dinner, where Layne spoke of the adversity she faced during the beginning of her career. The challenges she faced shaped the idea for the foundation, through which she hopes to provide support and assistance enabling young women to achieve their dreams without the same challenges.
The gala dinner celebrated the year’s successes, the scholarship recipients who have completed the program this year and the future aspirations of the foundation. This year 40 recipients (or #sisStars) have successfully completed the scholarship program, which includes support from Layne, a 2 day “Stars2Leaders” workshop and an allocated mentor, enabling them to continue taking steps towards achieving their dreams.
The inspirational speeches from six scholarship recipients, including fashion designer Tarese Klemens, Taekwondo athlete Kate McAdams and Olympic BMX Rider Caroline Buchanan, outlined how with the support and encouragement provided through the foundation they have overcome adversity and challenges to reach success.
William Buck is proud to support the ‘Aim for the Stars” Foundation. Their future is bright and with the number of scholarships offered increasing each year, they look set to reach their goals of providing 100 scholarships annually.
