This seminar will be presented in two parts:

Part 1

We are delighted to welcome back well known education expert financial adviser and Principal of Somerset Education, John Somerset, to Adelaide.

John will present on the following key points:

  • Sector Update: including current trends across the schools’ sector
  • Our Responsibilities: ​making informed decisions from a financial perspective
  • Financial Viability/Sustainability Cycle: analysing financial health made easy
  • Good Governance: strategy, risk mitigation, early warning system, board reporting
  • Benchmarking survey: how to use results and associated tools.

John has recently completed his Masters focusing on the financial sustainability of schools and will impart some of his research within his presentation.

Part 2

In addition, Grant Martinella, William Buck Audit & Assurance Director, advises a number of large independent schools in South Australia and will provide a short presentation on the following issues:

  • 2018 observations in the SA education sector
  • Brief update on accounting standard changes impacting the education sector.
