A commitment to internal promotion over external recruitment has paid off this year for national Chartered Accounting and advisory firm William Buck.

As professional service firms announce their annual round of senior executive appointments, William Buck is delighted that its four new directors are all “home grown” talent.

“Each of our new Directors – Nicholas Benbow and Rebecca Rossi in Melbourne, Janine Williamson in Adelaide and Scott Girdlestone in Sydney – are long term William Buck employees,” Nick Hatzistergos, Chairman of William Buck said.

“These appointments are part of our internal growth strategy. Across the country, we put a lot of effort into providing the necessary training for our people to progress through the firm and achieve their potential.

“From graduates who come on board and join the “William Buck College” through to managers and principals, we provide very clear goals and expectations and provide the support to help them reach the next stepin their careers.

“Wherever possible, William Buck chooses to provide opportunities for our own people. Those that have grown up in the firm understand our processes and systems and most importantly form a strong part of our culture. They’re part of the William Buck family.

“Many of our offices are first generation firms – it is important that the next generation  is given the opportunities to become Directors.  That means our current Directors have to proactively build the skill base of their team members.

“This includes leadership, business development and client service. We can’t just “hope” these skills will develop of their own accord.

“It’s been a very conscious decision to put more effort, time and resources into this area and it has provided growth for the firm and also a succession plan for our current Directors.

“Essentially we’re moulding the leaders of tomorrow – and of course our other motive is that we don’t want to lose our best and brightest to other firms.”
