William Buck grows to assist mid-market clients By William Buck on 08/08/12 - Mins to read: 3 minutes Mid-tier accounting firm, William Buck is continuing to expand and increase its capability across the middle-market in both Australia and New Zealand with two significant mergers and numerous high level appointments. The latest merger between William Buck Sydney and boutique firm Gateway Partners, effective 6 August, will add approximately 20-25% to the Sydney firm’s top line and about 50% to the firm’s Business Advisory Division. The announcement signals the third sizeable merger for William Buck nationally in the last two years. However, Group Chairman and Sydney Managing Director, Nikolas Hatzistergos says that recent expansion is not simply ‘growth for growth’s sake.’ “Due to changing dynamics in the mid-tier over the last 12 months, we’ve been approached with many opportunities. However, for us growth is not simply about numbers; any merger has to have clear synergies that will benefit our clients and staff,” Nik says. “Merging with Gateway Partners makes sense for our business. They have a fantastic reputation for assisting those in our core market: large family businesses, small to medium enterprises and high net worth individuals. The merger will strengthen our capabilities across these areas and allow us to better assist our clients.” Gateway Partners Managing Director Abie Greengarten says the merger brings a greater depth of experience and specialist services, access to which has been a challenge for the firm in the past. “William Buck’s specialist services such as tax, wealth advisory and corporate advisory will help us to offer our clients a fully integrated solution and a real opportunity to assist our clients as they grow. “The fact that William Buck has always been Australasian owned and operated is also a real attraction; our clients can be assured that William Buck truly understands the market in which they operate.” William Buck is further boosting its Business Advisory division with the appointment of Siobhan Sellick as a director. Siobhan comes from one of the Big 4 accounting firms. Ms Sellick has vast experience in assisting high net worth individuals and her services are sought after by many high profile Australians. Ms Sellicks’ appointment follows numerous appointments across the William Buck Group. Nationally, the Group has bolstered its Audit and Assurance division with the appointment of Conley Manifis in Perth, and Matthew King and Grant Martinella in Adelaide. The Group’s audit division now boasts 13 directors across Australia and New Zealand and will continue to be a significant driving force within the Group. Adelaide’s focus on strengthening its core service lines has resulted in the appointment of Adrian Frinsdorf to its growing Wealth Advisory Division and Malcolm Wight to its Tax Team. Expansion in New Zealand William Buck’s growth is replicated across the Tasman with the recent announcement of the merger between William Buck Auckland and Christmas Gouwland. The merger, effective 1 October 2012 will almost double the size of the Auckland firm. Both William Buck and Christmas Gouwland have long standing operations in Auckland and offer complementary services across audit, business advisory, tax and compliance. William Buck Managing Director Bruce Mincham says this cultural alignment has played a key role in the amalgamation of the two firms. “Both William Buck and Christmas Gouwland have strong roots in the Auckland business community. At William Buck, we’re passionate about offering the best service possible to help our clients and the wider community succeed. We’re confident that the people at Christmas Gouwland share this drive and passion. “Ultimately, the merger will allow us to build on our existing service lines and provide the opportunity to tap into a wider range of technical expertise and experience.” The firm’s connections with the William Buck network across Australia, and globally through membership of the Praxity alliance will continue to be extremely valuable, allowing them to share expertise and assist clients as they move into new markets.
